How did Kontain come to be?

Kontain is a work of passion, as envisioned by David Hugh Martin, the CEO and founder of the world famous interactive agency, Fi. As the world creates more and more digital content, both professionals and amateurs alike, he set out to build an online application for everyone ranging from the technically savvy to his parents for communication through media.

Kontain began as a project within Fi’s Labs division, and quickly required a company of its own. Launching in November 2008, Kontain has since incorporated (Kontain LLC), and is now a sister company of Fantasy Interactive, Inc.

Who should use Kontain?

Kontain is a place for people of all ages and degrees of digital savvy to easily post and share your ideas, pictures, thoughts, videos and comments—on one website, in one click.

Kontain is all about putting the experience ahead of the technology—in other words, Kontain was built to be easy, and accessible for everyone. Each usability test along the development path included a round with David Martin’s parents—if they couldn’t use it, we went back to the drawing board.

How was Kontain built?

Kontain was built on a foundation of passion for usability, a drive for the ideal sharing experience and a feeling that users of all levels of savvy deserve better.

On the server side, Kontain is built on a solid Java foundation, the Spring and Hibernate frameworks, and a MySql database. Our in-house, custom media transcoding server ensures the most seamless experience for our community. Who says developers don’t care about usability?

Does Kontain make money?

Kontain was built on the same principal as its parent company; if you provide a quality product that fills a need, success will not be too far behind. Kontain’s primary financial focus will involve strategic partnerships with top brands. While we cannot divulge details at this time, the Kontain team will have some exciting business news in the coming months, please stay tuned.

Kontain is focused on the social sharing experience with a low level of effort for each interaction. Your Kontain of tomorrow will feature a feed-based distribution model, allowing you to quickly and easily share your life online and through your mobile devices (or, cell phones as we like to call them.) We want to make Kontain your constant companion, so you can share, browse and communicate from wherever you are, from your desktop, cell phone, TV or refrigerator.
