Sounds of Beijing- Yu Yuan Tan Park Swimmers
Recorded June 11, 2009. Yu Yuan Tan Park has large water elements that I have heard are contintuously fed from the Summer Palace. This was the first park I have been to that people are allowed (or dare to) swim in the water. It turns out that people swim there all year round. It was such a cool thing to see and I definitely will try it next time I go.
During my stroll through the park, I came across several boys playing in the water at a bridge and I stopped and recorded. Boys came from the water and jumped from the bidge making these big splashes as people looked on. One boy keeps saying 'I will not jump!' as his friends try to convince him to. The sun had almost disappeared, the wind gentle and refreshing, and the circular ripples around a swimmer were just seen in the warm glow.
This is my favorite recording from that night and also my favorite image. Enjoy!
