Sounds of Beijing- Xiang Shan Park Cao Xue Xin House
|
Recorded June 12, 2009. It was unbelieveably hot that day so we went to Xiang Shan- or Fragrant Mountain. It was a huge arboretum and we only got to see about a third of it. It offered beautiful walks around the many different species of trees and you could really smell many different natural smells- especially in the Conifer section.
Within the park is a house of a famous chinese writer Cao Xue Xin. He wrote the book "Dream of the Red Mansions" which is considered to be one of the 4 most famous books in China. His house was surrounded by tall ancient trees and had many secluded courtyards. It is interesting to imagine what this area had looked like before the park was here. The beautiful quietness of this house was very relaxing- the wind through the trees, and the single bird chirping completes this minimal composition of sound with no more and no less than what it needs.
Perhaps it sounded the same back then.
