Sounds of Beijing- Summer Palace Path Fork

description of image

Recorded June 13, 2009. The Summer Palace is really a magical place. Again, the sweltering heat prevented us from going until late afternoon but during that time the wildlife is more active and the warm yellow wash of the summer sun was everywhere. The summer palace is as beautiful as people say it is. The wildlife, the gardens, the architecture made it seem as if everything was a fairytale.

During our climb to the top of the artificial mountain we came across a fork in the road that sounded quite unique. To the left were mostly cicada sounds and to the right were baby birds chirping for more food. I don't think I have ever heard such an extreme separation in nature sounds before. I set my mic at 120 degrees to try to capture this effect as much as possible.

Headphones recommended.
