Supporting local business and communities

Displaying: 1 of 1

As I sit here reflecting, I am reminded of when I first began my business in 1991. I opened up a small place in Middleton MA right on Rte 114. I lived with my then fiancé in Fuller Pond. The day I signed the lease with Liz Lampass I was told a family member had breast cancer and my world was turned upside down. Liz helped me find a person to go into the space that I had just then leased and BodiScience was born. David Feener was living in FL and thinking about returning back to the area and Liz thought we would compliment one another's business.

From this fateful day I have always had two basic fundamental theories about business. One support the community you are in and two deliver the best experience to every client walking through the doors. Growing up in other parts of the country I learned about culture and how important it was to support families and communities. I gave back to many organizations from girl scouts to the Ellie Fund, Middleton schools, fire department, police and every local fundraiser that people approached me with.

It is interesting to look back over almost 20 years of being here in the North Shore and how I have either been embraced by the community or dismissed. From the first day I opened my doors I went around to local businesses introducing myself thinking that the community would welcome me and work together. Sadly that was not the response. I have continued with blind faith and the greatest of enthusiasm to have the same spirit that I embarked upon in the beginning to keep that spirit through the years and try to partner with local businesses, communities and organizations to help in anyway possible. Being a small business it is not easy to give all the time to everyone. Especially a single woman on her own.

So now, as I sit here I think to myself about the community during these economic times and how the consumer has made choices with their dollars and I wonder if they indeed really understand how they effect the economy by the choices they make. Whether it is a client who decideds not to buy from a local shop, or go on-line and purchase after a local shop owner gives of their time to educate them, give them samples or give of their expertise or kindness and what a result that has on their community. I wonder if people realize that a business that has been long standing in a community and given of their care, time, kindness and hard work if they are able to see how they have an impact on keeping a community alive or destroying their own community.

I reflect and think to myself that because of the clients that have continued to patronize my company and be a part of our mission in the community that I am ever so humbled and thankful for them. Because of these clients we have remained a strong staple in the North Shore giving to charities, schools and local fundraisers to keep our community strong.

Thank you to all the BodiScience clients that have demonstrated their respect for me and my family of employees, it is most appreciated and with the utmost of gratitude that I bow my head in thanks to all of you.

Namaste, Dawn & The BodiScience Team

I often think that there will come a time when we will not have the local small shops that are so unique in their offerings. Just the other morning I heard on KISS108 that they were telling Billy Costa to take a walk down a nice street in an area where there are shops and just stop and talk to peolpe and enjoy the walk. They all commented on how nice it is to stroll in a small town. If we continue to opt to shop on-line and not patronage local small businesses I think to myself that this simple pleasure will soon be part of history.

I remember this story only too well. And I think to myself.... what a strong women you are. So many road blocks were placed in your path. Yet you took it all in strived, and look at you now! I have been fortunate to come to your beautiful spa, and indulge in many of your services ( a client of 12 + years). I have never been disappointed, my expectations always were met, and gone above and beyond. I truly look forward to my next visit. Dawn, you are an amaxing & extrodinary women. I can see you love what you do, & have the passion to see into the future. I can speak for all that I know who come to you, that "we" don't need the Oriental rugs, gold fixture, costly furniture, mickey mouse treatments, it's what you "create" for us in the treatments you design to help us all from within. Your teachings will stay with us forever! I am a better person, inside and out. Because I have learned to love myself... and I will always look at a glass half "full". Thank you from my heart!
