A new Web Developer joins the Fi NY office
|
Fi New York is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our Web Developer team, Brian Fegan.
Brian has spent the majority of his life in New York. Having grown up on Long Island, he then attended college further north in the snow belt at Syracuse University. And after spending most of his teenage years sneaking into the city to see concerts, he moved to New York City the day after graduation and has happily lived there ever since.
He comes to Fi with a desire to work with an extremely talented staff on a diverse array of clients after spending the majority of his web development career building content and finance sites within the publishing industry.
Please enjoy some fun facts we learned after sitting down to chat with Brian:
How did you end up working with development?
I've always loved the internet as a medium and find it fascinating the way its use and evolution has transformed culture around the world and the way people communicate.
What makes a good developer ?
I think being a good developer involves an equal balance between experience in knowing what works, but being open-minded to new ways of implementing a visual design or a back-end system.
Where do you find your inspiration?
On a large scale, I think nature is the best inspiration there is in terms of the way the elements of a successful ecosystem interact with each other. If things don't work in nature, they cease to exist. If you develop an application that doesn't work well, it will cease to exist as well.
What are the top three sites you visit every day?
1) SmashingMagazine.com is probably my favorite design & development information site. They cover a lot of topics and the authors are usually pretty insightful.
2) BrooklynVegan.com really can't be beat when it comes to knowing what's going on in the New York live music scene. It’s not a glamorous design, but it doesn't try to be. But as far as filters go, they are a great source of information.
3) Kontain.com. I work at Fi now, don't I?
Why did you choose Fi?
The work and the people. Fi provides everyone that works here with opportunities to do rewarding work. And you get to do that while working alongside an extremely talented and fun staff.
If you could be a superhero, who would it be and why?
Green Lantern. He's just a regular guy except for the ring. But only people with great willpower and ingenuity are able to make the ring work for them. It’s all about making what you think of in your head happen in reality.
Which of your past projects are you most proud of?
I helped build a customized content management system at my old job. Even though most people will never see it, I know that the people who use it every day love it. It’s very easy to train someone to use because its user interactions are so intuitive. And best of all, it keeps production staff away from all the code I wrote.
What is the first thing you look at when see a website?
First off, I judge whether it hurts my eyes to look at. Then I scan for any interesting user interfaces. Then its right click > view source.
What was the most profound thing ever said to you (or that you heard somewhere else)?
"Good artists copy...great artists steal."-Picasso
