Producer Tom Knowles joins Fi Europe
Here at Fi Europe we have recently expanded our list of nationalities by welcoming a new Producer to our team: Tom Knowles.
Hailing from Manchester in the UK, Tom began his career as a freelance interactive designer & Flash developer, before moving gradually into a more producer-focused role and becoming Web Director at his previous agency, The Roundhouse. Having worked in the interactive industry for over a decade, Tom brings a wealth of experience in a wide variety of areas: branding, design & development, information architecture, hosting, e-commerce & content management, accessibility, client communications and project management.
When he’s not clicking, dragging or typing, Tom is rather partial to short cocktails, nitpicking at grammar, compiling ironic Spotify playlists, and of course karaoke.
What is the best part of being a producer?
It has to be the involvement in a project from beginning to end. Producers usually meet the client at the outset of the project and are at the hub of everything - right through to delivery. It can sometimes be quite pressurized, but I love the variety of roles you have to take on; you're a go-to person and a problem-solver, so you need an in-depth understanding of every part of the project to be effective. And working closely with a team as talented as the one here at Fi is always a great experience.
What programs do you use?
Too many to list here! Whatever it takes to do the job. In any given moment I could be writing a proposal, annotating a screenshot, editing wireframes, doing a video voiceover, participating in a Skype conference call or recording QA issues in Basecamp. I've even been known to dust off the old HTML/CSS gloves when required.
How are those Swedish lessons coming?
Bara bra tack! Jag talar lite svenska och jag har några fler lektioner i det nya året!
How would you describe the Fi atmosphere in three words?
Every pixel counts.
What are your top 3 things to do in Stockholm?
Well, right now I would say:
- Get out of the cold
- Get warm
- Stay warm
Stockholm is a beautiful city with lots going on, but am I allowed to hijack this question for my own selfish purposes? Being a Brit, I really like Indian food. We’ve got thousands of great Indian restaurants in Britain, but they don’t seem quite as popular here. So one of my current quests is to find Stockholm’s best Indian takeaway.
Any recommendations, fellow Kontain people?
