Webbfredag at Fi Stockholm
Every month in Stockholm, a different web agency hosts the Webbfredag event (Web Friday), and on June 4th it was Fi's turn. The night was a great success; our office in the heart of the city was packed with fellow designers, developers and producers from a wide range of agencies.
To kick-start the party, we arranged a Flash vs. HTML5 debate, and thanks to our panel of experts (including our very own Hakim & David L) it made a very interesting starting point for the night's discussions.
Our office was completely rearranged in the most exclusive Stureplan manner - the evening looked a bit more like a royal wedding than a gathering of computer "nerds"; it's perhaps a coincidence that the Swedish Crown Princess is getting married next weekend :)
We'd like to thank everybody who showed up and participated in the debate, and for all of you who came by later to say hi and have a glass of champagne with us!

Nice! I like the Idea to host the WebFriday! I would be very interested how Fi thinks about HTML 5 and how Fi applies it.

HTML5 is impressing but i feel a little hard to replace flash. A simple interaction requires a lot of coding and much hours of work. HTML5 can do impressing things that flash did a long time ago, Jump back in time is a great example. I great to play videos form the browser and thats good to replace flash on this function, but the interface and interactivity issues that flash can do are far away from what HTML5 can do.
Also i known that this HTML5 crusade that apple is working on, is just a simple way to take over the world. They only want to have a safari and h.264 codec in the web as the only standard. You are not free to choose how to navigate.
I am not saying that HTML5 is not great, because it is, but Flash is a great tool, and we all have made the most great sites on internet with it. And flash keeps going on with new and new things everytime. Why just forget about it?
We, Designers and developers have a big mission in the web future. The technologies we use and our creativity are the base of the path of internet. A trend cannot kill our creativity.

Really love this idea of involving the so called "competition" in talks and engaging them in a social way. I think it breeds better products/thinking for everyone's clients.
Say, is anyone from Sydney, Australia reading this? Interested in getting the same thing going here?????
