MTV
We have received a lot of emails from concerned people asking about the new mtv.com that replaced the site we designed. FI has NOT designed or developed the current www.mtv.com. For reference, the above takes you through what we tediously and proudly designed. According to MTV’s own labs.mtv.com, the FI-designed site was a clear favorite among their users. Here is our official standpoint:
When the Flash-based MTV site was created, it was a ground-breaking venture. Despite several back-end limitations, it was exciting because it appropriately set the direction for what could be achieved interactively. We would like to see MTV being able to keep up with technology and taking advantage of the new portal technologies out there. The new MTV site, in HTML, has nothing to do with FI; we are passionate about aggressively pushing the boundaries of what is possible on the web. Generally speaking, we find it hard to understand why groundbreaking companies, not just MTV, revert to older technologies in the face of Web 2.0.
We do sincerely wish MTV the best with their new site, and hope this decision does not limit their dominance in the young, trend-seeking, forward-thinking market.

I know the feeling, you put your time, effort and devotion into a project, then some time later the stupid customer decide to downgrade their site design to something unrecognizable. Seems more frequent among big companies and organizations, where a new executive at some department suddenly want some changes, sometimes for reasons only known to themselves.

MTV brand guide lines are dominated by trends so that's probably why they decided to change the amazing work that Fi did by this retro (web 1.0) where consistancy and personality are given by trendy random backgrounds matching with the CSS and usability goes back to 90's.

It's hard to believe that MTV discontinued such an awesome application for what they have now, yikes! It would be cool to see the entire overdrive style sheet image, like the one for Kontain.com.

I believe its the limitations of the ones who make such decisions, they do not have the foresight to recognise new trends and to keep in touch with youngsters. The iPod alone has shown how the new generation adopts new technology and the interactive aspects of it all.

@Mebbs: Totally agreed!
I had a similar situation with a former employer where my boss had no clue about what's going on in the sector. Keeping yourself informed about latest and upcoming trends is essential in the branch. I think MTV should've known better as yet I saw them really open-minded.
And what's with the ads on their site? It's not like they depend on the money they get with those and it ruins the site even more.
