At what point in a relationship is farting okay?

Public warning: this subject might be offensive to some people so if you have a problem with gases, do not read on.
The other night Kurt and I were discussing when farting is okay in a relationship. At what point does it become all right to pass gas in front of your partner? Let me just make it clear that neither of us have done so yet but we can burp, have the hiccups, blow our noses and so on so the next step is farting, obviously.
It's one of the many brilliant things about living on your own that you can wake up in the morning and fart as loudly and violently as you please and it is a pleasure that I would hate to lose. However, it might be somewhat of a downer for the person in my presence. Romantic illusions would die, no doubt.
I would like to ask all of you: at what point did it become okay to fart? Under what circumstances did it happen? How did you or your partner react?
Maybe it will never be completely okay. I wonder...?
