Recent Work : YMCA Tri Cities
Our company started up an annual event/party/networking event called 'Refresh' last year. Its a business networking event but one of the really fun things we do is have local people submit websites that need a 'refresh'. They have to writeup a synopsis on why the company/organization deserves it and we'll judge the entries and then donate a certain amount of our services. 2008's winner was the local YMCA.
They're a group of awesome people who truly believe in what they do. It was great fun to work with them and also work on the site. They gave me a lot of creative freedom with the design and didn't provide too much direction. They wanted it to appeal to parents and kids and show that they're a fun and safe place for children to learn and grow.
Some details: The logo was drawn by Sophia Fetrow, our Photographers daughter. I had a few others try their hands at Crayon Logos but they weren't too good looking. I guess kids are better at crayon drawings than 20 something year olds.
The whole site is based on the Joomla CMS. I was responsible for design, flash design and programming for the nav, as well as setting up the site in Joomla, building the template and the XHTML, CSS trickery and a little bit of PHP code thrown in the mix for good measure.
** Update - One of our state Senators thought the site was "very nice".
