NY Tilt Shift

I know, that using Tilt Shift lenses not for it's purpose is lame. Anyway I got Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 for 3 days here to play around with.

    Makes for awesome images though.

Not bad, Anton! I think you need to find more cars and people to shoot—the bridge shots aren't doing this lens any justice! The last one is the best because the effect is a lot more subtle...

Somehow the effect makes those pictures seem like photos of a very detailed model to me. I love it.

What is the purpose of Tilt Shift lenses? :) 008 is best  for me, because of it's focus...

Quoted from: Jens Fischer - "Somehow the effect makes those pictures seem like photos of a very detailed model to me. I love it."

It is because of "fake" depth of field. If that would have been a model city and you would use the normal lens to take a photo of it, you would get a real depth of field by focusing at one particular item, and the rest relatively items that are close would be blurred (with an opened aperture). Here the items (buildings) are really far away from the camera and each other and blur of unfocused edges gives the illusion of depth of field.

Tilt shift lenses are used in architectural and interior photography mostly. with it's feature of tilting and shifting the lens the photographers can "fix" the perspective. For example, if you are standing on a ground level and want to take a photo of the building, you will always get a perspective of building going up, the vertical sides of the building will not be parallel, but will go up to meet in 1 point, with Tilt Shift lens you can make adjustments to that.
