Hawaii, Maui. Part V.

One day I went with local paragliders on top of the volcano where they usually start up, but the wind was "wrong" for them, so we went to the South slope of Haleakala, next to Kahikinui. Paragliers fly using the paraglide, the thing that is like a parachute, using the streams in the air. They start up at some mountain or a hill and can stay up in the air for hours. 

 

I don't understand anything in paragliding, but I really loved the documentary "Adrenaline & Turbulence" Igor showed me, about the Hungarian acro-paraglidrer Pál Tákas. Here's the trailer:

 

 

 

 

Here's another video from a friend of mine, Alex, flying overt the Haleakala craters. The landing on the beach at the end is pretty cool.
