June in Connecticut
While I have been pretty busy preparing my 3 summer shows, I had the wonderful oppurtinity to spend an amazing weekend in Salisbury, Connecticut. Our hosts, Richard and Patricia Boyle who own the magnificent Earl Grey Inn in Salisbury, were incredible in the gracious hospitality shown to us during our stay. We dined over exquisitely meals prepared by Patricia and over equally notable wines, we talked at great length about Art and Japanese culture and design. Richard, an art historian, who was director of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and curator of painting and sculpture, Cincinnati Art Museum, taught in Japan for 2 years. Besides enlightening us with a wealth of knowledge, they took us to the Sterling and Francine Clark Insitute in Williamstown, Mass., where I was blown away by the current exhibit - Through the Seasons: Japanese Art in Nature.
The next day was filled with as many treasured experiences as the previous one. I started early by doing photography. It had rained through the night and the leaves of the Japanese Maple on the front yard looked amazing. Allen Blagden, a legend in watercolor painting joined us for brunch - and it was such a treat!
If you happen to pass by Salisbury, make sure to stop by and say hi to the Boyles, you won't regret it.
